Training for: 1st Half-Iron man
Very little. In high school I ran hurdles and hated track workouts, especially when we had long runs. Though now those runs don’t seem so long. I really started running in 2000 when my husband, Greg, was training for his second marathon. We ran the Mayor’s Midnight run in Alaska with Team in Training in 2001. After that we became bored with running all the time so we started the sprint tris in Clermont about two years ago and are now addicted.
Goals:
To be active and healthy all the way into my retirement years. I want to be one of those people we see during a race with “71” on their legs. My short term goal is to finish my first half Ironman at the end of May and to beat Greg :).
Hobbies outside of Tris:
Karate. In 2004 I earned my first degree black belt in Goju-ryu karate. I continue my training in this discipline and am widening my background with training in Ju Jitsu. Martial arts are a great stress reliever for me. Greg and I also spend time volunteering for Give Kids the World which is a wish fulfilling organization which helps kids with life threatening illnesses have a dream vacation in Orlando. It’s a special place for us as we’ve been volunteering for twelve years. We are also animal lovers and share our home with two large labs.
PRs:
OD 2:45 at St Anthony’s this year.
Why I do This:
A few years ago, I found out I couldn’t have children of my own. I immersed myself in tris to focus on something. By challenging myself I am reminded that even though my life didn’t go in the direction I thought it would, life still has a lot to offer. Plus, Greg and I have a great time doing this together and competing with one another. We are doing our first ½ Ironman together as part of our ten year wedding anniversary.
